Local Information.

Horncliffe is a quiet fishing village where there is no through traffic. Salmon fishing is available on the river and costs vary depending upon beat and season. This can be booked prior to arrival if desired or more information can be found here.
Within walking distance is Chain Bridge Honey Farm which is worth a visit. The Tweed cycleway passes the village and links with the Coast and Castles route. The North Northumberland towns of Berwick-upon-Tweed, with it's famous walls, Alnwick where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed, Bamburgh where the castle sits above some of the finest sandy beaches in the UK, and Wooler a market town at the foot of the Cheviots are only a short drive. As Smiddy Cottage is on the Scottish border, towns such as Melrose, Selkirk or Kelso can also be visited easily.
A view of the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed which is only 5 miles away.

The historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The Cheviot hills are only 12 miles away and offer some of the most spectacular walking in England. Nearby there are many excellent walks on the River Tweed or in the countryside.
Only 3 miles from the main A1 road, yet deep in the countryside.
